Help, need VIN for manual trans car to order prom
I did a T56 swap, and my prom was toasted by a guy trying to change it to manual trans, anyway GM wants a VIN # to expedite my order. I can get a stock chip for $50 and was just going to start there and get the car driveable. If someone doesn't mind sharing their VIN with me it would be a big help. Here are the specs I need.......... 91, (90 thru 92 will work I think) LB9 HO manual trans, 16" wheels. My email address is 3ram@***.net If someone has a better idea, I'm open to it. I am getting a code 51 now, and the car is undriveable. Thanks..........
Try getting someone else at the dealer to help you. They should be able to figure it out in about five minutes. I ordered a chip a couple years ago and got it the next day without giving a vin.

Yeah, i hate when dealers try to give you the run around without a VIN. Same thing happened to me when i needed a different VSS to match the bigger diamter driven gear i recalibrated it with. Was a royal pita to convince the guy my VIN wasn't going to help and to just open the 350 car parts pages.

I found a good part # that would work by doing that. I ordered it, but is is on factory back order and .................. they want a VIN to complete the order. I sent them (internet dealer) mail to explain what I was doing but have not heard back.

Thanks for the info Don, but my learning curve is still a little steep. Just so I know what I am talking about when I bring it up..... what is the broadcast code, and what does it do. Another thing that came to mind was VATS. If I can get someone at a dealer to help me figure it out will they still need my VIN to get the correct VATS on what ever prom I buy?

The broadcast code is basically a sheet of paper that travels down the assembly line with the vehicle so the workers will know what part to install on that particular vehicle.

A broadcast code is the 4 letter designation on the e-prom.
If you have this code the dealer can usually find the part #
AXXD is for a '91 Z28 305 manual trans.

My bad, a broadcast code isn't a sheet of paper that travels down the assembly line. The broadcast sheet is what travels down the assembly line with the car with all different codes on it depending on the options on a vehicle. That is what I meant. But you could call it a built sheet...same thing. It's just that where I work (Nissan North America...Assembly plant in Canton, Ms) it is referred to as a broadcast.

Luck broke out for me this morning, I happened across a hypertech thermomaster piggy back chip on ebay
I was told by the maker of another piggy back chip that the old chip didn't have to be good for the add on chip to work. I still want to get a stock chip to put it on, but I am already set up with a 160' stat and should be able to get back on the road soon.
