TPI pings at WOT

Well, that pretty much says it all. She pings pretty bad up top around 4500 when the cars going from 1st to 2nd. Makes me hesitate to give it more, or keep at it. I feel as though something bad might happen. I ran a tank of 4-5 gallons 100 octane and the rest 91, and it ran pretty good, no audible ping. I am wondering what I can do about this? Would I need a chip burned? Any input will help., thanks fellas

What's your timing set at? If it's advanced any more that 6*, you might want to back it off to there.

I'm with the others. If you aren't running lean then it is most likely your timing. Check that ASAP......that's how you blow head gaskets
The difference between 6º and 8º base timing in TPI cars can be tremendous

I will check the timing this weekend, but I am wondering how some simple mods might affect the a/f mixture. I have gutted airboxes, air foil, k&N's, descreened maf, 3" exhaust with a cutout. Might these cause me to run lean? In any event the timing is something I have been meaning to check

A friend of mine put a cut-out on his 97 and it caused him to ping like mad. Not sure Y but it did untill he put in an LT4 knock sensor.

Anyways, with the rest of your mods your getting alot more air into the motor.
