Burned TPI Engine
Hi -
I have a chance to buy a 1990 5.7 TPI out of a Camaro. The wire harness is burned. Owner says it had a little fire. I can get a new harness, no problem. My question is - should I trust this engine? I'm not a 3rd Gen guy, but a Jeep guy with a desire to put a TPI in his Jeep. Any input would be appreciated.
Thanks!

Well for what it's worth, my Dad has a 91 305 TPI that was in a burned shell of a Z28 and it is just fine. The engine comparment stayed reasonably unburned and the engine is in great shape. The fire will probably only consume external things like the distributor cap and such so mechanically it should be just fine. Just take a look over the engine before you buy it.
P.S. Love Jeep's.

I don't think a minor fire that melted the harness would bother the engine much. Past that, you'll just have to take into account how much it was driven and by what kind of driver. But the fire? Probably not a problem.
