Distributor Gear Question

I am swapping form an 85 carb motor to TPI. My TPI is from an 88 Firebird. I need to know if I need to get a new distributor gear. I have read conflicting things.

Some say no, some say yes. Is the metal in the gears the same? I have heard that only TPI from Vette's and Trans Am's used the harder dist. gear because of the roller valvetrain.

So off that info I wouldn't need a new gear for the distributor because the Firebird used that same style valvetrain as my 85 350 in my Blazer. Is this correct. Thanks

Harley

Use the one that was running in the TPI motor.
