I just looked for the screen from a 82-84 Trans Am with the cold air induction.

It is pretty hard to make an actual cold air induction for a TPI motor from this opening because the air filter is at the opposite corner of the engine bay. If you moved the battery and made some ducting, it may work.

Just get the SLP cold air box and pull cold intake air from the inner fender.

I leave the screen on only to let out heat.

Here is a link: http://www.goingfaster.com/spo/cold_...r_the_l03.html Has info on making those individuals with Formula/Transam with the bulge on the driver side hood.

There are better alternatives. I run a huge cold air pickup down through to where the air dam is, cut through the battery tray and what not. I ditched the hood insulation and use the cowl as a heat extractor. This works for me as I monitor the ECM, I run on average manifold temps 80*-90* cooler then my coolant temps so I know damn well I have nice cold charge hitting the combustion process.

thx for droppin in guys.......im using the battery tray hole right now with some stainless steel tubing and a k&n on the end of it. it looks professional. i just really wanted to make the cowl functional.

zepher that cold air set up looks pretty sweet can you give me some more details on it? and where did you put your battery? and how did you re-route your heater outlet to the radiator?

ominous........so that hood insulation..is pretty much useless isnt it? should i just rip it out or does it actually server a purpose?

thx for the info fellas.

It is more of a sound dampner then a heat sheild. I dumped mine and just unscrewed the piece that covers the cowl, it now acts as a heat extracter

That cold air setup is from SLP and is for a 90-92 Speed Density TPI setup. It came with the radiator hose and water outlet neck.
It sells for $299.95, comes with 2 air boxes with 2 K&N Filters and the main intake tube.

You must relocate the battery to the rear of the car since there isn't any real space to keep it in the engine bay.

I didn't need to use the radiator hose and outlet neck since I had the 86 stlye accessories, but I used them anyway since I had them. I think you need to route it that way if you have a serpentine setup.

i was reading your reply and speed density jumped out at me. the guy i bought my formula from said the next thing he would do performance wise would be to change the car to speed density. ive got the need for speed. i would like to the know the difference between speed density and whatever i have. power gains, how much it cost.......etc. can you point me in the right direction? thx.

If you are staying N/A and can tune your own car, go with Speed Density. Much easier to tune and one less sensor to screw around with.
That is my opinion and what quite a few other people say. I never liked MAF, don't know why, just don't like it.
