LT1 intake modified for distributor running TPI electronics?
I know that the LT1 intake can be modified for a TPI car with a distributor hole drilled in the back and the water passages and bolt pattern modified.
My question is:
Can an LT1 intake have a distributor hole drilled into it and then use a TPI distributor and a TPI throttlebody with the TPI electronics and ecm on an LT1 engine?
This would elminate the Opti spark and since I am running a 93 ECM, which is almost like a 730 series ECM, it should work, right?
I am just trying to find a way to not use the Opti Spark on my car.

Yup. No reason it wouldn't work. GMPP did (and probably still does) sell carb intakes for the LT1 with dizzy holes. So naturally you could run whatever else you wanted as well. Engines are engines

Now I just need to get an extra intake and have it drilled and find an SD tpi harness and ecm.

You are correct. I have done lots of "distributor only" LT1 intake conversions this year. You will of course need the TPI wire harness and ECM.
Good luck finding a factory SD harness. You might have to go Painless.

You might be able to leave the stock LT1 PCM in the car if you are running a 94-97 PCM and just have the tranny wires and a VSS and tach signal hooked up to it.
I have a T56 for my 86.
John, If I find an SD harness soon, I'll be sending you an intake to have it drilled.

I have done the "distributor only" conversions for people with LT1's going in earlier Corvettes, Chevy trucks, Monte Carlos, etc....

Hmm, this brings up interesting possibilites. One question though, does the stock LT1 camshaft have a distributor gear on it, or would you have to swap cams.

yeap. thats why you can take a stock Lt1 cam and stab in in a SBC..... a few of the TBI guys are doing that since its a upgrade and used LT1 cams can be had for $50 or less.
looks good here.... here is the link to the intake..http://sdpc2000.com/cart.asp?action=...d=738&pid=2587
