Sneak Preview - E-tec TPI

Hello everyone, its been a while since I've posted, but I've been working on a new project (1991 GTA Trans Am)!! Here's a sneak preview of my E-tec Vortec TPI!! I'm really digging the monochromatic color scheme I'm going with!

Can't wait to get my prom burning equipment and get rolling!!

Lemme know what you think!!

Well, you're right in that the head ports need some work, but the runner ports are matched to edelbrock runners..

Cam specs

Here's the link to the cam spec sheet... its a xr258hr-10

http://www.compcams.com/Technical/Se...umber=08-408-8

Oh, and they're etec 200's... I probably should have gotten the 170's, but I bought the heads a while back.. Room for the future, anyway..

Compression I'm not sure about... Edelbrock says that you'll get 10.2:1 with flat-top pistons; I've got the stock pistons with 4 valve reliefs (flat-top?) and 1003 felpro head gaskets..

If your block hasnt been decked then you are going to have alot of excess quench height by running the 1003 head gasket. The 1003 is designed to be run on a motor with zero deck height.

If you are running an L98 factory shorblock then your compression ration will be ~9.25:1.

Why are you running that small of a cam? You would make ALOT more power with a bigger cam!

Is it in you budget to change it out? If so, the Comp Cams XR269HR-12 would be GREAT for your combination! It would probably get better emissions too due to the bigger LSA of the above mentioned cam.

Just trying to help!

Yeah, its a fairly tame camshaft by comparison.. Originally, I wanted one that would play nicely with an ecm for a future fuel injection setup (this was back when I did the v6-v8 swap in my 1988 red firebird, which suffered a fire a month ago). At this point, I've simply pulled the drivetrain from that bird and am working to put it in my new GTA (going EFI this time as opposed to performer rpm with eps 800 carb).. I know I'd possibly be better off with the cam you listed, or possibly even the one in your motor, but it performed well under the carb induction (and that was never perfectly tuned) so I'll try it for now...

I agree with 1badz, step it up now!!!

I am sure it will work out pretty well, but in the long run you save yourself from aggrevation of changing it out with the engine in the car. Just my 2 cents.

That paint scheme looks awesome, I bet it will look incredible in the car too. Nice job
