How does TPI compare?

My roomate just bought a 95 Mustang GT. His quote was "see that, GT" I said "yea, 87 TA with TPI." My question is this... how does his 5.0L HO Ford Motor compare to my 5.0L TPI Pontiac Motor? Just curious.

One makes torque and one does not.

If your GTA is in good tune, you should be able to take him by a couple of car links.

If I remember correctly, the 5.0L Mustangs routinely trounced the 5.0L Camaros and Firebirds. I think it had a lot to do with vehicle weight though. I also believe the bore/stroke combinations were different between the two. The Ford had a 4.00 bore with a 3.00 stroke, whereas the Chevy (and correct me if I'm wrong) had a 3.75 bore and a 3.48 stroke.

You'd think the Chevy would make a lot more torque with almost .5" more stroke, but it actually made less- 275 ft-lbs (Chevy) vs 300 (Ford). I think the cam in the 305 was so anemic that it really hampered the Camaro.

LOL.... how very true!!! But, I wouldn't give 'that' much credit to the anemic 305.

This mustang, if it's a stick... will give you a good run, and if you're running stock with an automatic, he might just take you!

I raced a 2002 mustang GT which had a manual and took him, and that was before most my small mods and new exhaust. It was close but still took him. However i did get took by a mid 80's mustang but it was a police intersepter with 4.11 gears and my 2.73's cant keep up with that in town.

If your stick and he is auto i think it will be close, a good race if you ask me. If he is stick and your auto then you'd better hope he doesnt know his car very well. Mustangs are fast little buggers. But the 5.7 is an easy win. My buddy has a 5.0L Capri (almost identical to mustang) thats mildly modded. He cant even touch my 5.7GTA. I usually burn out for a couple seconds just for show before i blow him away.

stock for stock the 5.0 Ford is superior to the 5.0 Chevy...

Still, not much. Do a few breathment mods and you'll pass him.

95 GT stick should run a 15 flat, which is faster than any auto 305s I know of, if it was a lighter fox, I'd say you wouldn't stand a chance unless it's an auto for both cars. are you a manual 305?? if so you'd have a good run. the only dogs are the 96-97 GTs, those 4.6s are a turd and a half. they make 305s look good lol

A 5.0 MUSTANG 5 SPD, WITH A DRIVER WHO CAN SHIFT WILL BEAT ANY STOCK TPI F-BODY, IF IT WERE AN 86-92 FOX. THOSE CARS RUN 14.0'S AND FASTER COMPLETELY STOCK. NOW, WITH THAT SAID, A 95 MUSTANG 5.0 ONLY MAKES 215 HP, AND IS MUCH HEAVIER THAN THE OLDER BODY STYLE. IT WOULD BE AN OK RACE IF YOU'RE BOTH MANUALS, OR AUTOMATICS, BUT I WOULDN'T BET ANYTHING THAT YOU CAN'T AFFORD TO LOSE.... GOOD LUCK!

The 305 TPI of 87 ran around a 15.4 or so, so you are off by a few clicks Vs the Stang, maybe if someone was to bump him Hmmm..... j/k

Anyway, I have a 85 Iroc with a rebuilt 305, small cam, headers, a/c delete and a airfoil(I didn't feel any difference btw) and I took care of my cuz's 96 GT that only had a exhaust and K&N. It was a good little race. Off the line you will get him but after that it is a matter who drives better and shifts better. Good luck!!!

a 95 5.0 makes comparable HP to a stock fox. my friends 89 5.0 vert ran a 14.4, as did my 350 IROC and we both had our share of tune up issues, I wouldn't say it was any faster than mine stock for stock. I've heard 13.8 out of a coupe, but it was driven so hard and so well I doubt any body could pull it off on the street. it also had slicks.

id love to be the one who proves you wrong...my G92 LB9 with a flowmaster, K&N, the EGR walls ground down and me driving it like it should be ran a 14.1@almost 97....i dunno about you, but that will run all over a LX 5 speed...and LT1 and L98...and would leave a 94-95 5.0....those 4.6's? haaaaaaaaa lol......

Properly driven a G92 LB9 will whoop any L98 car as i have...DAMN THOSE G92 L98's

look most mustang new or old run low 15 high 14s with a crappy driver you need to run a mid 14 to even come close to beating him i know from experience i run a 14.5 and get beat by ones that just have exhaust, they reason they are faster is they are lighter thats it, but with the newer ones you have a better shot because i was racing 02 GT WITH A GRAND MARQUIS last night we were rollin already buit i still beat him.newer they are the weaker they get. good hunting though
