gas tank leaking badly

A lot of people say this is just a small leak, but this is beyond a pinhole leak, I have had two thirdgens, and I have never experience this. On hard cornering, and a full tank, the fuel spills out the filler door and down the quarter panel. I can wiggle the filler neck with some play, and it has a clicking noise, which leads me to believe that the weld there is somehow damaged. Anyone experience this before??? Is it worth it to get a new gas tank, my mileage has dropped significantly I'm losing so much fuel

Its time to find out where the leak is before thinking about a new tank. Just my opinion.

I had an 86 Trans Am with a severly leaky tank. I would loose like 2 or 3 gallons overnight. I had to replace it, and it was not easy. The rearend has to come out. The filler neck is soldered to the tank, so fishing the old one out is hard, and putting the new one is is almost impossible without "modifying" the inner quarter panel. Not to mention the aren't cheap. Expect about $200 for an aftermarket one, and $400 for a GM piece.

I have the original gas tank out of my 86 Iroc, you pay shipping its yours... Just the tank, no gas cap, and no fuel pump.. .. Came from a TPI car. The tank did not leak, and I parted out the rest of the car, and sold the chassis, and just found the tank sitting in the corner of the garage today.

That filler neck is covered by a recall. Check with your chevy dealer.
