Engine code question... help!!

I hope someone can help me!?! I have an 85 Iroc V8 305 TPI that I've been doing some work on. My engine light has been coming on and throwing a code 34 (used the paperclip jumper method to get code). In the repair book it says the air sensor is bad. So got a Bosh loaner from a garage that I put in to test it out before I spent a couple hundred dollars on a new one. I unhooked the battery cable to reset the computer, put the other sensor on and drove the car for about 4 to 5 miles at 50 mph. I could feel the enging adjusting itself as I was driving. It seemed to smooth it out. At about mile 4 the engine light came on again.... *sigh*. Pulled the codes again and still got a code 34 again. Anyone have any suggestions on where to go to from here? I'm really at my wits end as to what else could be going on. Any info would be greatly appreciated!! Thanks.....

Your ECU itself may be going bad. There are a lot of codes that include amongst primary troubleshooting guidelines "ECU may be faulty".

How do you check the ECU?

The '85 TPI used a one-off custom
box (MAS) to control power and burnoff
for the MAF sensor. They have been
known to go bad, yours sounds like
the burnoff may not be working.

If you can find another, try swapping
it in. (Check people that have done
the '85 to '86-'89 ECM swap to borrow
their '85 MAS)
