code 36, have a relay ?

i have a code 36 and want to replace the maf burn off relay. while im doing that im just going to replace the other 2. so ill replace all 3 relay's. my question is are all three the same. they all have the same part numbers on top of the relays but my partstore told me they were different. when i took them out of the box at the part store they all had the same part number on them. the prices were also different on the relays also. thanks for any input

The parts store is lying to you. They are all the same. GM uses different part numbers on them so they can charge you more money for the fuel pump relay, but a GM counter guy told me that inside they are identical. I wouldn't replace the relays unless they are bad though.

Also, don't be suprised if a new MAF burn off relay doesn't fix the code 36. I've been trying to track down the same code for about a year now. I replaced the relay, spliced a new GM replacement relay plug into the harness for the realy, and checked continuity throughout the system and everything is fine. I'm baffled. I even called TPIS, and they said it was a common problem and they have no idea what's causing it.

I do believe that this same subject was discussed in another post by another board member. I have to disagree with you TKOPerfotmance, they are not the same. One is the fuel pump relay (rectangular shape), one is the MAF sensor relay, and one is the MAF burn-off relay. Both of the MAF relays are the same (kind of a oval shape). The fuel pump relay is completely different. So please do not start this up again. I seem to remember that you replied to the previous post with exactly the same wording in your first paragraph.

thanks for the replies. the car is all original and has the factory relays on it. and they all have the same part number on top of them. so i assume there all the same. anyways i bought the relays from the part store and the maf was cheaper than the fuel pump relay and came up as a different part number. i used the maf relays for the maf and the fuel pump for the fuel pump. erased the codes and installed the new relays and now i'll just have to wait and see what happens.

Yeah, all three relays in that location are the same. I finally got a chance to wrench on my car for the first time in a while the past couple of days and I checked that out. I don't care if they carry differnt PNs or not. Inside they are identical.
