The guy I am buying my motor from is putting it back together for me for the cost of the parts. I am going to order a more agressive camshaft and good timing chain set for him to install. Anybody have any recommendations? I don't want to have to have a bigger stall or lose any streetability, but I want the car to thump and have more power. What do you guys think?

I HEAR GOOD THINGS ABOUT THE ZZ4 CAM BEING COMPATIBLE WITH THE STOCK COMPUTER, STREETABLE, AND NOTICEABLE IN THE PERFORMANCE AREA.

MAYBE SOME ZZ4 CAM USERS WILL CHIME IN HERE?

OTHERWISE, ANY COMPU-CAM STYLE WILL WORK AS LONG AS YOU PAY ATTENTION TO THE MANUFACTURER RECCOMENDATIONS, I.E. COMPRESSION, STALL, ETC. I KNOW THERE ARE A FEW CAMS THAT DON'T REQUIRE A STALL, BUT STALLS CAN MAKE A HUGE DIFFERENCE, EVEN IF IT'S JUST A FEW HUNDRED EXTRA RPM'S.

i had bullett cams make me one that has the same exact specs as the tpis zz-9 cam. this cam pulls very hard throughout the rpm band and with a somewhat thumpy idle. i personally wouldnt pay tpis $375.00 for the cam so thats why i had bullett make mine for $270.00. just my .2 worth........

THE ZZ-4 CAM IS AROUND $100, I BELIEVE, FROM GM PERFORMANCE. ZZ-9 IS A DIFFERENT CAM (BASED ON THE ZZ-3) FROM A DIFFERENT COMPANY (TPIS).

I use the ZZ4 cam in my car. It's not a bad cam, alright power with alright gas mileage. Just depends on how much power you want I guess. Personally I think i'm gonna ditch the ZZ4 and go to one of the large ZZ cams, maybe a ZZ9. But that's just me and i'm looking to go fast. If you're looking for a daily driver cam with some lump to it then the ZZ4 would work fine.

Or you could check out this webpage. Shows how the LT4 Hot cam puts out more power then the ZZ4. The site has alot of info and pictures.

Here is a great article on cams from Jim Hand. If you don't know Jim Hand, he happens to be quite an authority on Pontiac engines, but this article applies to all cam choices out there.
