newbie questions
i just got my 1st tpi set up. i have a carbed 350 right now.
i got the whole kit for $50, i pulled it myself from a yard so i know it is all there and good stuff, the car ran before i pulled it appart.
here is the 1st catch though.
i am putting this all into my jeep. it is actually mostly chevy at this point, engine tranny t-case and axles.
it is a custom rock crawler. i am the last one running a carb and i get killed for it.
my motor is a little built with a cam and pistons. i know i can't run a tbi set up on it because of the map sensor on the kit. i don't have the vacume for it.
so i want to run the tpi bacause of the maf instead.
the jeep doesn't see the road and has no wiring in it now.
here are my questions:
-going from the 305 the kit came from to my 350 do i need to change the injectors and how do i figure out what to change them too?
-where do i find wiring diagrams for the tpi harness so i can pull what i need and leave the rest?
-do i need to get the computer reprogramed and if so how is that done?
-what other things should i be on the lookout for in this swap?
we have done several conversions of carbed motors to tbi before but always 350 to 350 or 454 to 454.
so we can deal with wiring and what not, nobody knows anything aobut tpi though.
i have gotten several books that have a little help.
any help from here would be great.
thanks

as for injectors you can get some 21-24 lbs - 21-22 is what came in 350 tpi's stock... lt1's i beleive had 24's... and i think you can use the 24's without changing anything... you might wanna find a chip for a 350 tpi though, as for the wiring the engine harness should all be one peice, just take the whole thing, and dont cut a single wire trust me its much easier to undo every clamp and hold down rather that cutting it.. i dont think there is anything else you will need, depending on where your alt is mounted as the tpi intake requires a diff bracket, oh and make sure you get the TPI alt and dist.

I think you will love TPI it is great for low end torque. I used to have a 406 TPI CJ-7 for trail riding and i took it on the street a few times. It was so cool. It had something like 500ft/lbs of torque a 20000rpm.
Also, you will need a 350 knock sensor.

good info to fin out.
i got the tpi dist but not the alt.
why is the alt different?
what model car should i use when getting a 350 knock sensor?
and also for the injectors, am i better of with the 24's or the 22's? and what did the 24's come in for a model as well?
the parts guys around here can't do much with out a vehicle to look up first.
it's a problem i run into all the time with my jeep so ikeep a list for the parts runs.
thanks for the help

The knock sensor year doesn't matter. Just tell them it's a 5.7 in a Camaro.
How much power does the motor make? That's what will determine your injector needs. 24s are good to 450HP. You're better off running injectors that are just right, rather than too big. You will probably need a custom chip to get the system to run well. An adjustable FP regulator is also a good idea.
The alternator isn't any different. I'm sure you can use what you've got now.
Grab a Haynes manual for a 3rd gen Camaro to get a wiring diagram for the TPI setup. About the only thing you can remove will be the air pump and EGR stuff (though you'll need to have a custom chip to remove the EGR without setting a code).
Sounds like a cool Jeep. I've got a '76 CJ5 that is a total woods beater. It's got the 3.15:1 low range gears and one piece axels. I'm always looking for a 401 hooked to a T-18, because it will just drop right in.

Don't forget a high press fuel pump. You'll need 40-50 psi for TPI.
Wish I had known that a week ago. I thought they all were supposed to be 3.9k ohms.
I now have a good used 350 knock sensor for sale.
90-92 uses 3,9 kOhm and earlier has 100,3kOhms........
