TPI Problem?
I've got a 85 vette first of all what should the rmp's be when i am idle in nuetral, then also when i drive it lets say i put it in first drive a little then come to a stop sign and let go of the gas the rpm's get stuck at 10,000 i give the gas a little tap and it goes back down to 6300-6400 (my normal idle) whats going on?
And how can i tell if my car is misfiring? How much HP will i gain if i remove the EGR and smog pump? PLEASE HELP!

I am assuming you meant the RPMs are sticking at 1000 and not 10,000 at the stop sign and it goes back to 630-640 rpm when you blip the throttle. It could be a lot of things causing this. Idle air control motor (IAC) could be going out. The car may have a vacuum leak causing this, the throttle plates not sealing for some reason will do it also. The throttle cable could be hanging up also.
Your prom will determine the idle speeds (yes there are several) and it changes with coolant temperature and when the A/C is on.
If the car is missing you should be able to feel a shudder when accelerating and a noticeable loss of power.
Removing smog pump and EGR will not give you much power and will cause some issues with the car. The EGR will cause the pcm to throw a code if you remove it. The AIR system being removed will not hurt much although it does cause the O2 feedback to be skewwed by .1 volts and cause a mild lean condition.
Good luck with it,
Charlie
