Vortec Heads?

Do the Vortec heads off the 96 and later trucks flow well?
I notice that some people have them listed in there sig.
Are these "good flowing on the budget" Heads?

I'm currently building a 92 TPI 355 and was wondering if these heads will flow well after polish-porting and valve job?

Thanks,

ahh Thanks!

So I do have it right though?
The heads are the ones off of 96 and later trucks?
Do they bolt up to the TPI or is there some drilling needed?

You need the SDPC baseplate too.

So for about $1,000.00 you can get the Vortecs and SDPC baseplate. If it were up to me, I would throw $1,000.00 at some stock castings (7 angle valve job, bowl blending, the works) and not worry about making them compatible by having to buy another intake component.

However, you could buy the Vortecs and SDPC base and try to make some money back by selling your stock base and heads. The base I know for sure is desired by DIY port & polishers - and the heads... less desireable but theres market for them.

Another last note: if you decide to throw a little work into the Vortecs, the consensus is to concentrate on the exhaust side where they'll benefit most.

Go with the vortec's and the SDPC base. It's a GREAT setup!

Just make sure you order the heads from SDPC with the upgraded dual valve springs.

Even with untouched vortec heads, with the right cam, runners, and compression, 350 + hp is easy to get!

the last set i had built were done with lt-4 springs,retainers,keepers,2.00intake and 1.56 ex.teflon seals plus a 3-angle valve job, portwork in the valve area, none in the intake or ex. these heads dont require it you may gain a tenth or two,not worth it in my book,i have a total of 700.00 in these heads and by the seat of the pants feeling over my l-98 heads is like a 75 shot of n2o..............
