Marine Cams, In 85 - 86 Ford used marine cams, at that time most cams in stock cars were lowend cams and fuel economy, marine cams have stronger midrange torque. which is where a lot of cars fell off, get off the line then performance was basically void, Automanufactures only wanted to get cars off the line and operate only at the cruise RPM, this is where they felt was the most important. Marine cams are meant for the power band in the middle not the end, most boats don't run full out when their on the lakes, there cruising in the middle of their RPM band for pulling skiers or getting across the lake. In a car most people are not running full out except in a drag race, so how often does someone tach out a motor on the street? lowend more midrange is more street than topend. I to have opted for a marine cam in my new 414SBC chevy, ON DD2000 it is showing over 400TQ at 2000 RPM and a peak TQ of 530 @ 4500RPM with peak HP @ 5500, how often will I see this PK, not real often unless I want to draw a lot of attention...
