leaking gas tank
My car is leaking gas pretty bad, but it doesn't seem to be coming from the filler neck, like most do. If I remove the heat shield, I can see the two tank straps. The passenger side strap is the only one that is wet with gas. Does anyone have any idea on where the leak could be coming from? Is there any alternative other than buying a new tank, to fix this?
Thanks for any help.

My 1990 GTA started leaking in the same area. Even after I had the tank out I could'nt find any hole or visible damage to the tank, but it was leaking pretty bad. I bought a new one from Autozone for $140.
I'm no expert on third gens (I'm a second gen guy) but the only other leak-possible connection I know of is on the top of the tank where the fuel sending unit is. Look to see if the fuel lines exit the tank close to the tank strap that is soaked with fuel. It could give you an indication if the sending unit is the culprit. Bascially, there's a rubber-like o-ring that seals the sending unit to the fuel tank. If the gasket is damage or old, it may leak.
Unfortunately, if that's the case, you'll have to drop the tank to change it the gasket....

When I tried to see where mine was leaking from before I had the tank out, I wiped it dry where the gas was, which was the bottom front corner on the passenger side. After a few seconds the gas would just start appearing on the tank in that general area like coming from a hairline crack. It would leak worse when the car was running, I guess because of the fuel pressure.
