87 gta Plenum cleaning

I recently remove my air plenum to fix the egr valve sensor, and I notice that inside the plenum is dirty (all black inside). How can I clean it???

here's the idea. first, take off the plenum from your engine. get yourself about a gallon of some cheap gas so you dont spend much money, and get yourself a bucket of some sort. put the plenum over the bucket and put the gas inside the plenum to break up all the oil and crud (all that black stuff)... the bucket's there to conserve the gas incase you want to reuse it to clean the plenum. shake it up a bit, and then let the gas out... pour more gas in till you see that instead of it being black, the plenum is now more of a light brown color. there, you're clean. leave the plenum outside for a few hours for the gas to evaporate. then... put it on. your set, have fun might as well port the blocks infront of the throttle body on the plenum while it's out.... it'll clear any obstructions in the passage of the air entering the plenum.

Plenum clean

Thaks for the idea, cause I wasn´t sure to use fuel for the cleaning, and I´m going to clean the runners too. Do I have to remove the sensor that are in the lower section of the plenum?, and something else can, I use fuel to clean the body of the throttle to?

Using the gas is kinda crazy, the fumes will give you a few headaches, before I ported the plenums I have in the past, I would get some gumout carb cleaner, and a tooth brush, spray down the entire plenum, and let it sit for 5 minutes or so, then go to town scrubbing it down really good. Then wipe it down with a rag you don't need. Then you can wash it down good with some kind of soap, and use your garden hose, and spray it down with a nice high pressure nozzle to remove any left over crud, this works well.

That might help, but most of the carbon in the intake is caked on, so it needs some scrubbing action and soap, but you could try that too.
