Setting fuel pressure...
Setting fuel pressure...
Ok guys, got a fuel pressure question for ya; and yes, I've done a search.
I have an HSR w/ the adjustable FPR. When I have the car idling, I set it to 40 PSI with the vacuum unhooked but when I hook it back in, it drops 10 PSI. Is this normal? Is there such a thing as an engine having too much vacuum? (causing the drop in pressure)
I did a search and from what I've seen, a 5 psi drop is what is desired. Could my AFPR be bad?
My problem is that I don't think I'm getting the fuel I need. When I put the car under WOT, at about 3000-3500 RPM, the car starts to fall off really bad and I get a very loud popping noise in the exhaust... like a lean pop.
Right now, I set the fuel pressure at 50 psi at idle with no vacuum and of course when I put vacuum back to it, it drops to 40 psi. Still have the problem though.
I'm going to rig something so I can tape the gauge to my winshield and see what happens at WOT.
This also occurs with fresh plugs and wires. At the moment, I also get about 10 mpg and I have black soot on my bumper cover (signs of running rich) Base timing is at 6*.
Could valve adjustment have anything to do with this? I have one on the pass side that sound a TINY bit loose but haven't adjusted them again. Could a valve be too tight and not closing all the way thus causing a problem like this??
Sorry for such the long winded post but this is gettin old and has been going on for about 2 months. I wanna get this taken care of this weekend!!!

If you got an old set of A/C gauges, hook up one hose to high side gauge,(gauge and hose only) and tape to windshield, make sure hose has nipple to push on fuel scrader valve, this was my gauge at the dealership for 10 years
