checking injectors on TPI
Im thinking my injectors could be bad on my 91 350TPI.....I checked the resistance on them today, and turns out, only 2 of the 8 injectors are in spec. I checked them at operating temp also....which is when I start to have idling and stumbling problems. I have checked timing, ignition etc.....but Im thinking its just the injectors. Does anybody know a way to check the pulse width to see if its in spec?? I have the ECM852 program on my laptop...so I can see what the pulse width is....just dont know where to reference it to see if its in spec. Also, since I only have problems after the car is in closed-loop, what else may cause this?? Here's the deal...When I first start the car, everything's fine(even on the laptop), BUT as soon as the car goes into closed loop, it starts idling rough....and smells rich. Everything "looks" to be ok according to the laptop, but in fact its not. I have checked all ignition parts, MAP sensor, 02 sensor is newer(less than 1K).....Could just the injectors cause a problem like this?? The only other thing unchecked for now is the fuel pressure, which Im checking today. ANy suggestions would be GREATLY appreciated.
If it's stock, just replace them. The stock injectors suck and they all go bad. If the resistance is wrong, replace them. There's no need to go further.
If you must, though, there is an injector balance test. It's firing the injectors manually, and measuring the FP loss (provided your car can maintain FP after priming). The process is described in the Helm manual. It is tedious work though, going in and out, priming the fuel pump, etc. It's just not worth it, IMHO.
Leaky injectors can cause a rich condition, yes.

Im gonna go ahead and get the SLP 25lbhr they have for $99 and just burn a new PROM for the changed injector constant.....then take it from there. A fellow technican here at work said it could be the fuel canister purge valve, or solenoid....but who knows. I know for sure the injectors are bad. Is there anyway to take the purge system "out" of the PROM?? Im eventually going to take the AIR and EGR off also...just less things to go wrong... Thanks for the help...
