the engine is a 5.7L TPI motor from auto center

To me it seems a little big, I would stay somewhere in the 225-228 range as far as duration. LSA is good where it is. Lift is nice, but still a bit much duration as far as I am concerned... maybe I'm wrong, but I think it would put your HP curve too high up in the RPM range for TPI to make full use of it.

But I think other people will probably say different things. I'm interested in what other people say.

Mmmm... it is hard to say whether or not that duration is too much. Your TPI setup (runners and base) are they out of box or ported nicely?

I think for a stock TPI that cam is significantly too much. For aftermarket it is still a little much but with extensive port work to move the powerband up you could make good ues of it with tuning... is that the specific grind COMP recommended?

W/ that intake setup I would say to run one step lower than that. Which is the 224/230 .503 .510 cam. If you had a short runner intake setup or a SuperRam I would say run the 230/236 all day long!!

Right now the only thing that is ported is the plenum. The base (stock) and runners (slp) are sitting on top of the 305 that is in my car right now. I'm ordering the 350 and all the stuff that goes with it (big mouth, TB, etc.) soon, and I'm gonna port match the base and runners while im doing the swap.

the furthest ive gone into an engine was taking the intake runners off, so im still learning about all this stuff. Right now cams are pretty much a mystery to me.

This was the grind that comp cams recommended but i thought it might be too big as well (wasn't sure though). I was originally planning on going with the ZZ-9 but it seemed a little overpriced.

Thanks for the recommendation chris. What range would that cam make most power in? Would it be ok to keep the stock shift point (5000)?

thanks for the replies, nick

That cam in a short runner setup will make power up to about 5800 rpm, and the 230/236 will make power even higher than that. W/ that intake setup, you will only breathe up to about 5500-5600 rpm. The 224/230 will make good average HP and torque though. Stock shift points will definately not be right w/ that cam.
