the Street & Performance wiring harness
anybody ever try one of these harnesses? A good friend of mine owns and operates the local 'Vette shop and he was tellin me that he has done several TPI swaps (not on vettes), and he said that he got a Painless one time and it was a huge PITA. He said that he had to re-wire half of the wires, and it just took a lot of time. He uses the S&P wiring harness, which is about twice the price of Painless (BOO
), but everything works perfectly.
What is everyones opinion on this? Also, the S&P one comes with the ECM that is waterproof and heat resistant, so it can mount in the engine bay. Does the Painless harness even come with the ECM?
I am buying a harness because the car I am taking the TPI from is not in that great of shape, and has half of the wires cut, so the car isn't running right or anything. Oh, and I'm sticking this TPI system on a ~300hp 350 crate motor, and putting that into a '86 Caprice Classic. So I want the system to be SD.
thanks in advance for your input.

The painless harness doesn't come with an ECU at all, it is the harness only.
You might try Ron Francis Wire Works. I heard he does good work.

nobody else?
nobody has any experience with these harnesses?
I know the Cap't dude here has done a Painless, as well as a few other people. However, since the Painless doesn't come with the ECM, and I would like to replace EVERYTHING electronic on my TPI because the original computer and harness are history (hacked, held together by chewing gum, and hacked again. The thing runs, but idles at 2500).
also, gonna be doing my own PROM burning. Oh joy, now time to play with the electronics. I've been reading that PROM burning basics sticky in the TPI section, and it seems simple, but a few of the recommended product's websites are no longer valid, so I guess I have to start finding all the stuff that will work. It was like $250 for everything, right? Oh, and does anybody know if I can use this stuff to burn my own chips for a '93 LT1? I know it was SD and the ECM was open, so you could replace the chips and all.......
Thanks guys.

Also, is it a 100% complete harness? Like, plugs into the dash and everything?

i went with the painless harness also.........i wired it in to my dash .....it was alot easier than fooling with the harness i made originally from a v6 car.....i even dabbled with my oringianl harness for a short time.....i changed my tb harness into multiport, just by adding the eight injector wires..run ok but i didn't like it i knew it would mess with the stock tb ecm so i got a harness from a v6 car and ecm......changed it over to v8 and added a 350 prom....now i got the painless......when i get the money up i believe i will swap harnesses again for an accel dfi system

S & P Harness
I used the S & P integrator harness for my install of a 91 383 TPI into my C1500 truck. It was very straight forward and wiring was minimized. They also have a very knowledgable tech support that will always help you out. Yeah, they are alittle more pricey, but in my case it was very well worth it. The only wires I had to splice in at all were a power to the ECU, and a wire to the speed sensor. Very easy. I wouldn't even think about painless anymore...my brother used their harness for his LT1 install, and it was and still is a nightmare.

Also, I guess I need to call tech support on this, but I need to know what kind of harness I need. I know they have a choice of the electric speed sensor, a manual one, and another one, and I really have no clue what my tranny takes. Its a TH-700 (or 700R4, the tranny is like the only thing I'm not to sure about for this project) from like a '76 Silverado, all brand new internally with really nice stuff-built to handle like over 350hp daily. Picked it up from a good friend with a brand new 350 crate motor for $500. I guess I need to ask my local mechanic that I know, or my friend that I bought it from might know.

cool man, thanks.
Does the harness come with a chip at all? I just want my car to run before I get all the stuff for my own PROM burning.
