600rwtq too much for a 3rd gen?

Ive seen some 383 setups around that are at around 400-500tq to the rear wheels. is 600 possible? would a stall converter higher than a vigilante 2800 be needed to hold all the torque. im looking at a 383 with 23-degree TF heads CNC'd at about 9:7.1 compression. with the LTR setup made up of a 58mm tb, ported plenum, semi siamesed runners and edelbrock base. what size came would get the numbers the closest, thats where im lost. oh yea, would it be pointless having 600rwtq?

hmm... you need A LOT more than what you listed to get 600 hp to the wheels on a 383. you'd probably never want to drive it on the street though after your done with it... tc, cam and all. you need better heads, a radical cam, you'll need to raise that compression, and a new rear end and tranny to hold the power. slicks would be great too. honestly... if you want 600 hp, i think you're going to need to feed that 383 with a large bottle. if you spray, forge the internals, leave that CR, and get yourself a cam for nitrous - they really do help when you spray. peace

If you plan on 600rwtq then I see a 12 bolt in your future.

put simply?
HELL NO

so, 600rwtq?
I would say to forget about the 383, and go 400. And if your gonna run all motor, you need a lot more compression than just 9.7:1. Try about a point higher, or just the highest you can go with 93 octane. Or more, if you can get some really good stuff. I've never tried it, but does octane booster work for this situation? And your gonna need the perfect cam for the job. And I would say that your gonna need to get a TH400. And a 12-bolt rear end. And either a roll cage or some serious body braces.

In the end, it would be worth it because it should pull some good wheelies as long as you have slicks or somethin, and it would pull like nothing else. But its gonna be expensive.

Is it possible? Well, anything is possible.
So remember this quote:
"Speed costs money. How fast do you want to go?"

600 Rear wheel torque is attainable. PM mrr23. Check his sig out. 348 hp and 539 torque. He has a 360 though. It could be done with a 383 though.

The 9-bolt would handle it. The guy who runs 9bolt.com is putting down 500 hp with his GM 9-bolt.

Start searching for members who have that much or close to. Alot of them are daily or weekend drivers.

I bet he isn't running slicks though. I don't know how tough it is in comparison, but I know that the 9-bolt out of the LT1 F-bodys can't handle that much power through some good stickys. A few guys with 6-speeds have blown the rear end with everything stock but slicks, but they were holding it pretty much doing the WOT then dumpin the clutch type of launch.

Anyways, the 9-bolt might be able to handle it, but not without slicks IMHO, and it would definetly be money well spend getting a 12-bolt. Same goes for the TH-400 tranny I mentioned.

ok, i had a 383 with a direct port 300 shot when it was carbed on a 10 bolt and it held. i put over 700 torque down on a chassis dyno. but i had all the good stuff in the rear end. now that im going turbo with it .060 over i should put down in the 800-900 range on 25 lbs of boost. i dont know if it will hold then, we will find out though

after adding new stuff to my 406, im hoping for 475-500 RWTQ (need a bigger cam first to see a solid 500RWTQ) but im sure after my 200 shot ill be over the 600rwtq mark
