One of my friends wants to sell me his 1974 350.
My 305 tpi broke (bottom end is shot..) and i want to swap the short block for the 350.

The engine is out of a mid-70's chevelle.

Will my TPI system be a direct bolt-on?

What heads are the best, the stock ones on the 350 or the ones on my stock LB9 (1989)??

Will the stock TPI fit? It depends on what year the TPI is out of. The intake manifold to cylinder head bolt pattern changed in 87. So did the valve cover bolt arrangment. So basically, if the TPI motor had side bolt valve covers, YES. If it had center bolt valve covers, you will need to do some modification, or just swap out the TPI base manifold for an older one.

As far as which heads to run, that is up to debate. The 74 350 heads are probably going to be some chokey choke smog heads that have the crappy wedge cumbustion chambers. The 305 TPI heads at least have some potential. Plus, if you run the TPI heads, then you dont have to worry about the TPI setup not bolting up. Problem solved.

My advice, work the 305 TPI heads a litte, bolt em on, and go beat that motor till it blows too!
