Quick guestion for the experts, Im ordering a mini starter for my l98 block, but when I called summit to try and get help I got some druggie that couldnt even speak english. So im asking here what starter do I need. I swapping over to a t-56 tranny if that matters.
chevy with 153 or 168 tooth flywheel?

Im looking to buy the summit 1.9 horsepower mini starter.
or what is everyone else using , I will be running a 383 so I need some starting trq

sorry to kind of hijack the thread, but I am gonna run a crate 350 that is about 300hp. Nothing special about the motor. But, can I use the same starter out of my '86 Caprice 305? What about the one out of my 305 L98 from the '86 T/A?

From my understanding, the T-5 bellhousing is only big enough to accept a 153 tooth flywheel, while the 700-R4 uses the larger 168 tooth flywheel. I'm using the Jeg's ministarter with my 153 tooth flywheel.
The important thing with starters is to match the motor and flywheel. In both cases here we are talking about small block chevy motors so you need the one to match the flywheel. Another easy way of checking is to go to a website where you can look up replacement parts. I use autozone and look up my car and whatever I want to compare it too. Then I double check the part numbers they give me.
