Carb-TPI swap info needed

Hey everyone, i have all the parts to swap to TPI but i was wondering if i can do partial at a time, say i take out the wiring whip for it and run a non computer controlled HEI distributor, and all the stock wiring that isnt in the main whip for the alternator, starter, distributor ect. while i put in the TPI harness, is this possible? also i need to know what connector ends i need to put the IP connector harness wires that go to the fuse box, in the stock fuse box of my car. the little metal ends for it. also i have a gastank from a TPI car and it has a 3 plug connector for it, what is the other wire for, i know 1 of them is for power, and its already grounded to the gastank, the fuel level gauge, and the other is???? any info would be greatly appreciated!

well, you need to replace the stuff inside the TPI gas tank into your tank, as the TPI one has things such as a different fuel pump that FI motors need. Also, I would suggest just taking your car out of line for a weekend or so and doing the whole swap at one time. It would be SO much easier for you, and you could just start making a pile of the TPI parts you need in your living room for now and start to study them so the swap won't be so hard and all.

BTW, what car is the TPI going in? The motor? Is it that '85 Z28, and is it that CrossFire injection or whatever its called?

no right now its carb. and i have a 406 with edelbrock heads ect. but iv got an LT1 intake setup going on it, with TPI harness and custom prom by John M. i know all the internals of the gas tank have to be changed, i have the whole tank and sending unit, everything, i was wondering where the wires went to, one for the fuel level gauge, one for power and its automatically grounded so im not sure where the 3rd one goes. as for getting it allt ogether i mocked up a 305 with heads and put the FI on that motor with all the sensors ect. and i have everything i need, just some wires are cut(5 of them)and the guy i bought the setup from said they were all grounds to the back of the motor. so hopefully they all are. the fuse box on my car is already labeled inj1,inj2,crnk,fan,ect... so i dont have to worry about that or the whip that goes to that because i have both, like i said i have everything, theres like 8 wires going to the fuse box, then like 5 grounds and all the rest are sensors, i think i should be able to do that pretty easily. also i have an 87 MAF setup, is there (1) 2 wire connector going from the coil to the distributor, because my coil has 2, 2 connector plug spots and im not sure whats going on with that but i was told i only need one. i think the guy supplied me with 2 sets is because one was bad(bare wires) and the plugs only fit on one side of the coil anyways. i just dont want to mess anything up to where i dont have a car for a week.
