Code 42 and car won't start
Over the weekend I took off my intake manifold (modified LT4) to replace the gaskets and to try to fix my distributor oil leak problem. Here is a list of all that I did during the process.
New intake gaskets
New GM distributor
New plugs and wires
Replaced my 30 lb SVO injectors with 28 lb LS1 injectors
After installing everything, the motor fired up and I set the initial timing to 6 degrees BTDC (ESC bypass disconnected). The motor idled fine after a couple minutes and everything seemed to be fine. I took it out on the street to drive it around and everything seemed ok. I went to shift to 3rd and gave it about 60-70% throttle and there was a loud backfire and my buddy who was following me said he saw a large cloud of black smoke come out of the exhaust. The motor then stumbled for a couple seconds and died. I tried restarting it but it only turned over and wouldn't start. I checked for codes with my scanner and a code 42-Electronic Spark Timing came up. After messing around with the leads coming from the ignition module I still had the same problem. I figured out that I get spark when I turn the motor over but the injectors aren't pulsing. I replaced the ignition module with the one off the old distributor but that did nothing.
I read somewhere that a code 42 can be set if the EST and bypass wires coming off the ignition module aren't getting the right signal. At one point one of them is supposed to be grounded and the other should have voltage. Does anyone know anymore about this problem? I need to get this car off the side of the road ASAP. Thanks in advance for any help.

Had a smiliar problem ended up being the pickup in the distributor itself, since its new see if they'll swap one out, but hard to belive that it be bad new, just a thought.
