Qustions for stroker folks
I'm planning on buying an assembled 383 from Speed-o-motive, whom I believe to be reputable. I'd like to keep the stock L98 heads and have them ported and valves replaced with larger. This will give me approx 10.7:1 CR. This sounds too high for me, am I wrong? What head gaskets would you recommend?? Also what's a good example of a small diameter cam that people talk about? I plan to use TPIS upper and lower intakes... shooting for the neighborhood of 375hp/tq. Thanks.

if u run 10.7 u'r 383 will deffinatly be on a healthy diet of 93 octane. Also I havent heard very good things about speed-o-motive engines...But make sure u do ur reasearch and make sure its what u want. 383 will be fun!!!

I have just heard that their strokers dont hold up...it may not be the builder but that is just what I have heard...I think it may mostly be on the customer swappin in the motor and not allowing for proper break in time...And thus the motor grenading...

Do you know where the failure was at on these engines? Just being curious since a friend was considering one of their kits. I had a local machine shop do mine. I was just wondering what exactly happened with speed-o-motive.

I think 10.7:1 will be a little to high for the stock heads. If you are going to pay to have them ported and new valves why not just get a better set of heads?
My motor was done locally, Eagle crank and rods (6 inch) and K-B Hyper pistons. I used a thinner TPIS head gasket to get the 10.3:1 CR using a dished piston for better power.

If you get one of their motors, pull it apart and check the clearances. Do a search for camarojoe. He bought a car with a speedomotive 383 in it, and it gave up the ghost. They also took 2 months too long to deliver it and put the wrong parts in it. Since you are in TX, look at www.strokermotor.com and http://www.arlingtonmotorsports.com/index.htm
