Cowl Hood on TPI?
Cowl Hood on TPI?
I'm running the L03 motor so I'm a little out of place here but I have a question. Woudln't a Cowl Hood do more functionality on a TBI or Carb with an open element and have a Ram Air on a TPI? I jsut see a lot of TPI with cowl hoods and am getting a little confused.

With an open element air filter sitting on top of the fuel delivery (TBI or Carb) then you have somewhat of a cold air setup, and reduced underhood temperatures. At speed, the cowl will constantly assure that hot air escapes out of the back of the hood.
On a TPI car, it will reduce underhood temperatures but it isn't going to do much else for performance since we have a lid and air box setup.
A proper cold air intake will eliminate the need for a cowl. If you have open element TBI or Carb, or if you have TPI with a throttle body mounted filter, then a cowl hood would help alot with actual intake temperature reduction.
The number one reason these days is because cowl hoods look really good on thirdgens.
No ram air effect... just a consistent elimination of stagnant, hot, underhood air.
