Fuel pressure drop after injector install?
Fuel pressure drop after injector install?
Okay so I installed some new injectors I got from fiveomotorsports.com. They were the D9B units. Now, after the fuel pump primes and I turn the key off, the pressure quickly drops. Does this point to a stuck open injector dumping fuel into the chamber? No fuel visible outside around the injectors are fuel rail so it must be inside. Also, the fuel pressure regulator was good before the install. Is this normal after a new install? Could it be that 1 or more is stuck open but after the engine runs a bit that it will close up like it should??

If you haven't already put everything back together, you could lift the fuel rail out of the maniflod and have someone prime the pump while you checked the injectors for leakage.
Ya, thought of that but I put everything back together already. Think I just learned a valuable lesson. I wish the TPI wasn't such a pain in the butt... I shouldn't need to take everything off, right? Just the upper plenum I think would allow me access to the ful rails..
I just received those same injectors from fiveomotorsports. They have a ford logo on them..lol..anyways, I'll be installing them tonight. Any tricks I should know about? I'll be installing a Holley AFPR at the same time...
The interesting thing I found with those injectors is that according to Bruce, they should've been a little short so I wouldn't be able to use the retaining clips. Well, they fit perfectly with the clips. So that was a surprise. Other than that, the car runs like new. You'll be glad you did it! Also, I think my initial fuel pressure drop might have been trapped air in there. As the car ran for a little bit, the pressure finally stayed at a constat 40psi even with the car off. One other strange thing I encountered was that the shraeder valve pin somehow got misaligned so fuel started seeping out of there really fast. I simply got a large paper clip, straightened it out and pushed the pin up and down a little and it seemed to realign it. So have someone looking at that valve when you first start it back up so make sure no fuel is coming out anywhere. That can easily start a fire. What you might want to do is rather than start the car right away, simply prime the fuel pump a little at at time. Just turning your key to on a few times should run the fuel pump. Good luck!
