starting problem

i have trouble starting my car where it wont crank, but then will in a few minutes or longer. the wires in the pod checked to be okay, i had a new key made but the problem persist. i asked the the chevy service department what else it could be and they said i probably have to replace the cylinder in the ignition. could this be the problem? if so can i get a used cylinder out of another camaro or do i have to get a specific one? dont want to put in 150 what the dealer is gonna charge and the problem still persist. Please I need insight. Thanks

Do you mean you turn the key and nothing happens?

If so, then starty here...

Disconnect the battery for a few minutes to reset the ECM and clear codes.

Then try it.

The first time it won't start, scan the ECM for codes, see if a VATs code pops up.

Look on the main page for the "How to" to scan the ECM and read codes, or do a quick search.

VATS trouble code on his car is 46. Check the wires for the lock cylinder that run down the steering column by disconnecting the two white wires in a orange wrap from the purple/yellow wire and the black/white wire at the connector under the dash. Put the key in the lock cylinder and use a multimeter set to OHM's to measure the resistance value in the pellet in the key. If there is no value shown or the value is different from the value you got measuring directly off the key. Then you have a bad lock cylinder or a broken wire in the steering column.
