Porting 305 tpi, too many custom gasket sets here to choose from, help!
I have to replace my intake manifold gasket and figure I will port my stock TPI setup and 305 as much as I can while I have the intake off. There are different gasket sets listed at advanced auto but Im confused as to what one to buy. I guess I could always go with stock and make the gasket openings bigger to fit my porting job but it looks like some of these sets are already made for biger ports. Can anyone make sense of this? I just want the best set that will seal up my stock runners and intake manifold after I do some major porting. Do I need or want the exhaust crossover blocking shields on the gaskets??

are you actually taking the manifold off or just the runners and plenum? you can't really do much to stock runners to necessiate larger gaskets. most of the gaskets you have listed are for the manifold to head seal.

Thats what I was wondering, only the first 2 mention an upper set. I want to port the plenum, runners, intake manifold and the entry to the heads to the max. I want a set of tpi gaskets that will give me enough room to do this, will the stock gaskets have enough extra material for this? And whats the deal with the manifold gaskets that dont have exhaust crossover blocking shields on the gaskets?? What do those shield thingies do anyway?

I don't think it would be a good idea to port the opening to the heads while its on the car, your going to get metal shavings inside your motor.
