LPE 219 Too Small???
Ok,...some people seem to think that the lpe 219 cam is the best thing ever, and some people think it is too small.
I already have the cam.
I am having a 383 built for me with forged internals.
I also already have a ported superram intake and minfold as well as a set of AFR heads that flow 283.6/239.3 @ .6000.
I also have a set of 1.6 roller rockers, eldelbrock long tube headers, 3 inch exhaust, 58mm tb, and slp cold air.
I drive my car daily. It has 245k miles on it. I take it to the track every so often, but race it alot, and drive it very hard all the time. I drive it on my trips as well. I used my car to go to NY/NJ right before my stock 350 crapped out.
So is my cam too small for my daily driver? I do want lots of power, but streetabilty is a huge factor.

I think it would be great for your intended purpose. Very streetable in the 383, and matched well to the heads and intake combo. There are better headers than edelbrock, though.
You can always call Comp Cams to get some comparison, or even Lingenfelter Engineering to see what they have to say, since its their design.

Personally I like a 236/246 590/590 LPE cam myself.

The 219 is perfect for what you want to do, stop doubting yourself, you made the right choice. I have used this combo before and it is more streetable than the larger comp cams, trust me. If you drive it long distances and care about gas mileage stick with the 219.

Gas mileage is not important to me. I got 12-14 mpg very often with my 350, but I might start complaining if it got to close to 10mpg.
Streetability is very important though. I don't mind a lope in my idle, but my old cam in my 350 had such a bad lope that it would surge the car forward at lights....that was too much lope.
I mean how much power difference are we talking here? If the difference is going to be like .1-.2 in the quarter, forget it. But if I'm going to gain like .5 by going bigger, I might be able to live with a little more lope.
The LPE people have it easy, because I already have the cam.
The go bigger guys have to convinve me to ditch this cam I already have and paid for and spend 200-400 more on another cam.
But on that point, I have spent a pretty penny already on all this stuff, and my 383 and rebuilt tranny are going to cost. So I would hate for a 200-400 $ part to be the thing that I regret not doing.
Thanks for your help so far...but I'm still undecided. Hopefully some more people will chime in here.

The LPE 219 is a proven cam. It was very tame in my 355 and it would be even more tame in a 383. Personally, I would go bigger, especially on the lift, as you stated your heads flow 283 cfm at .600" lift, the LPE 219 will give you .560 lift w/ 1.6 rockers and only .525" w/ 1.5's. I'd get something around 224/224 maybe even 228/228 w/ .600" lift or so, making sure piston-valve clearence is ok. You'd need a good set of springs for something like that too.
Don't know how much your ET's will drop with that cam compared to an LPE 219, depends on the ramps, event timing, etc., not just duration and lift.
If you decide to go w/ the LPE 219, it'll work and work very well. And it will be a very tame, possibly 11 sec daily driver. I'd guess you could pick up around .25 secs with the larger cam. Just a guess. I doubt you'll see a .5 sec difference with your combo and any cam over the LPE 219. Too much bigger, and the cam would start to push the powerband out of the SR's range.
