Excessive fuel with 89 305 TPI

Fuel pump was replaced with a perfomance pump, adjustable FPR also installed. The pressure stays at 42psi idle and varies from 38 to 42 psi when driving. The car runs real bad and smells of gas. Other parts that were changed are the charcoal canister, pump relay, intake gasket and distributor. I'm thinking that a fuel injector or injectors have gone bad. Should the fuel rail pressure drop when the car is shut off or should it hold the pressure ? When shut off the pressure will drop to 20psi within a minute. After five minutes it will drop to zero.

it should drop slowly over a period of time, but it should never drop below a certain point.

something is definitely wrong with your car... I have the same problem, also (although it may be fixed now, but i'm not positive...) I still have hard-starting problems, though.

Thanks for the reply. Fortunately, it's not my car. I would have done had it towed off if it was mine. It's my sons car. I think the injectors are leaking.
