Lb9 305 tpi or create motor????
I have a 85 trans am lb9 305 Im going to gut it compleatly leave drivers seat and nothing else. I would like to get into the 12's and still be able to drive it comfertably. Can i get that lb9 to 12's, it comes stock with 215hp and 275tq. Which for that year and everything i thought was pretty good. Or would it just be a waist of time to mod it???

a lot of people are going to say dont waste your time...and you will be spending more money that necessary. granted if you start with a 350 or 383 you will find it alot easier. but it definetly can be done.. especially with such a weight reduction...i am planning on the same thing so thats why. basically its up to you. either port your runners or get some slp siamese...get an TPIS mig mouth manifold..some 22lb injectors..52mm TB...hooker ceramic headers...port and polish stock heads...port plenum...call comp cams and tell them what you are looking for...some pulleys...cutouts...AC delete and some other stuff. suspension and tires are important too. or you can take all the TPI stuff off the block and put a weiand 142 mini blower on it...and then do your cam and other work...those are mean and you dont lose to much gas mialage..good up to about 500 HP..its all about preference. you could stroke it too

Yes I would do the weight reduction and a heads and cam package with aftermarket ported TPI and full exhaust and of course a good tune. That should be the ticket me thinks.

actually getting a 305 into the 12s on the motor is going to be very difficult. i'm not sure if anyone has done that yet. there are many options you have to choose from, but for the money and extent of modifications you will have to perform i wouldnt use the 305. this is rare for me to be advising against using a 305 becuase i think they are decent motors, and you can go pretty quick with one. but i think that 12s naturally aspirated is a pretty tall order for a 305. now if you had a blower, or nitrous, that is a totally different story. Maybe i am wrong, is there anyone in the 12s with a NA 305???
1MeanZ...i think you are right...however with HIS extensive weight reduction i think it can be possible. there is a guy in www.iroczone.com who has a 305 TPI in his car and has a ported plenum...centerforce clutch...3" al. drive shaft...3.45 posi 9 bolt...dynomax headers..2.25 to 2.5 y pipe. high flow cat...sport line suspension gas shocks tubular control arm AC delete.. Emission delete...removed crash bars spare tire and jack....so basically no head work...or internals and hes running high 13's. but there is someone on here who has a stock 305 TPI w/a procharger and he is in the 11's

Before I switched to my 355 and Superram I had a 305 5-sp with ZZ-4 cam, vortec heads and intake, TPIS large tube runners, and the free mods. The 305 ran 13.53 at 101 MPH with a race weight of 3575 LBS. If I lost some weight and had the 305 been fresh it could have run 12's.
