What would I gain by switching to TPI?

MPG? HP? Anything?

I have an '85 305 LG4 4 barrel carb, all stock.

Also, does anyone know an approximate price for this?

tpi will offer you better gas mileage and low end torque. It will not be good for going over 4500rpms however...the intake is too restrictive. What are you using the car for? If its a daily driver then go with tpi or some other fuel injection setup. You can get them complete on ebay for a good price these days.

urban, keep in mind that the stock gm tpi,
is very restricted in airflow.
It is, however, super/turbocharger friendly.

Increase in MPG:

Not a 3rd gen but about the same drivetrain package.
I just replaced the 31 year old Q-Jet and manifold on my 73 Cheyenne.

Original MPG: 10
New MPG: 13.6
36% improvement with just this one change.
A pretty good increase, I'd say.

Engine runs MUCH smoother, has better torque and more power.
I measured the mileage but used the butometer for the power increase, thus no real numbers.

I gained 17 HP & 70 TQ to the rear wheels when I changed mine on a stock 305 (stock TPI setup).

Are there others things one can do while making this swap? I am doing the same thing (only with a 5-speed) for a street/highway car. I would love to be faster than my SPEC-V .

i killed a spec-v the other day....nice cars tho, as for the swap, mine is in progress i had an 85 lg4 then went to 406 with the stock intake and q-jet, and the car hauled a$$ but i already had went and bought the TPI setup and i have an converted LT1 intake. its all on, and running but as you might be able to tell i am blowing some black smoke(my post is near this one....) once that is solved i want to see what kind of difference i am getting.... the wiring actually isnt too bad once you know what wire is which and where it goes ect....

GM reported a 30% in fuel mileage, hp, and torque. However, the TPI system is not very good for sheer hp, as it is very restrictive in the higher RPMs. Would you get an advantage? Oh hell yes.

I am doing a TPI swap, BTW. Its my daily driver (actually, my only car), and I bought a 350 crate motor from a friend, and am going to put a TPI on that motor. I choose TPI because: 1) I am just getting my license, and fuel mileage is a big factor 2) redline for my motor is in the 4.9k range, which is what my TPI system will go up to when I get the runners and base done 3) not as many hassles as with a carb, like hesitation and all

now, a lot of people can argue all they want, but for a daily driver, nothing can beat FI. And TPI is about as cheap as you can go for FI.
