my car lost all power ! help
hey guys.... i own an 86 iroc-z with an lb9 tp engine it has 62,000 miles on it...
here goes i put a new tranny in the car after the old one blew up after one day of driving... well slowely but surely my car has lost all most all of it get up and go power there is no power any ware...it like some one stole my engine and put in a geo engine...also other symptoms are every now and then it will take like 20 seconds of cranking till it starts
ive replaced the plugs, coolent temp sensor, feul filter, and changed the oil thats the only thing ive done to it.... i was told that my feulpump could be failing and putting out low pressure? could this be my problem... my oil pressure is could so i dont think the engineis blown.... it just has no power at all like a 5.0 tpi engine should it takes a long time toget up to 60 mph, also it will free rev to redline with out breaking up at all so i dont think it is spark related.
im seriosly stumped i want my car to be ru ing the way it should i mea its ok to drive but there is no power at all and you have to lay right into the gas all the time to get it to stay at a good cruzing speed because there is like no power at all....
before i could come to a stop and put the gas the the floor and the car would walk side ways up the road now it will just slowely take off and gain speed slowely.
ware should i look first... can a feul pump really go bad and still work enouph to keep the car running but just not have any power at all or should i look some ware else.

update: i looked the whole engine over did not find any feulline leaks of any sort... but did pull a spark plug out and it was alot whiter then it should be... it didnt look dangerously white but white enouph that i k ow i have a feul starvation problem...
could it be anything else other then the feul pump... the feul pump primes like it should forlike 2 seconds when you turn the key in the on position... is there anything else like a relay of some sort that would cause the feul pump to have weak pressure.

you say you replaced the tranny, did you install the torque converter properly? a friend of mine had the same problem with his 91 rs. a few of us kept telling him it was the torque converter, and after several stubborn weeks of not believing it, that's what it was. he described the problem just as you just did. just a thought, these cars love to break our wallets over something dumb.

a fuel pump can get weak & cause a low/no power problem,
a clogged cat can also cause the same thing. i lean toward the fuel pump cause you said sometimes it takes it about 20 seconds to start, get a pressure gage & check your pressure.

friday i am going to be taking it to a shop and leaving it over night to get the feul pressure checked..... what other symptoms would a clogged CAT cause? also i dont no if this relates to anything but i also have to run my fan all the time or my engine will run warmer then normal.....other then that it runs ok... just doesnt have any power..
also i dont get how i could have installed the torque converter wrong.... the power has slowely gone away from it but it still shifts fine and all.
all i know is this is really starting to **** me off cause i am forced to drive it this way till its fixed cause i have to have a way to get to school and work... but hopefuly ill get a pressure test done and i will find out the problem and then i will have to worry about having to drop the tank to replace the pump..
also is there anything else i should check out on it that might be the case of my power robbing problem.... again i did take a plug oput and it looked a bit whiter then it should be likeit is starving for feul.
thanx for all the help guys:hail:

I had a clogged cat when I first got my IROC with 60k on it... When I went to wide open throttle the valves would tap i believe due to too much backpressure. I hollowed out the cat by breaking the ceramic inside and blowing it out with the cat back system detatched at the cat.

Since it started when you replaced the tranny I would look there first. Did you make sure you re-attached all the wiring? The computer might be doing something funky, are you getting any SES signals?
A weak pump and/or plugged fuel filter will also kill power and cause the lean condition you mention (white plugs).
Backpressure won't cause valve noise but a lean condition will cause the valves to clatter..I just replaced a fuel pump on my sisters TPI Chevy pickup and it was still pumping but couldn't struggle up to 50 MPH, after I replaced it (it's in the tank of course) it ran like a dream!
