intake questions

alright I have an 89 t/a with full exhaust done on my 305 tpi. Since Im finished with exhaust I am contemplating a ported intake. My question is with my 305 would I be better off going to a siamesed plenum, slp runners and a ported base or should I stick with just porting my plenum and base and keeping the stock runners the latter would save me some money and I dont feel like throwing money away. So if one is better than the other Ill spring for it but if not then I dont want to waste money on useless "performance" parts. By the way in the future I will change the cam and heads keep this in mind for I do not want to upgrade my upgrades in the future.

Port your intake and plenum.
Siamese runners wouldn't hurt.

Where are you in Tx?

Just port 'em for now. Instead of sticking with the TPI setup and getting siamesed runners, why not just spring for a more efficient intake like a Super/Mini/Stealthram or an LT1 intake (probably the cheapest)..

definitely dont wanna spring for the stealth, also Ive heard it sacrifices alot of tq or it might have been top end, anyways I also thought a fully ported tpi would be better than a stock lt1 if not why do so many people stick with tpi on their 60s muscle cars?

Because the TPI looks cool, that's why.

It doesnt sacrifice a lot of torque, and it doesnt sacrifice any top end compared to a TPI setup. I used to have an HSR on a mostly stock L98, and still had more than enough low end to not get traction.

All I know is that the stock LT1 intake allows the LT1 to get enough air to the cylinders to make at least the rated 285HP.

Im on the same boat. My 88 has a 305 with headers, highflow cat, & no muffler.
Right now Im in the prosses of installing a ported manifold, SLP ported runners, & ported plenum. I too am thinking of heads & cam in the future. I should be done by monday & will let you know how it feels. But Im not expecting a big improvement. All of these improved parts will be more beneficial when the heads & cam are on.
Now for a fact the stealth & the LT1 will give you better numbers in most conditions, but like some one said allready the TPI looks cool!
By the way while your in the prosses of porting, take the time & polish everything.
