What can cause a backfire?
For some strange reason my car is backfiring every time I push in my clutch to shift? What could be causing it? Timing?
Any help will be greatly appreciated.

air leaks.
my car was doing the same thing this weekend... athough i already knew what it was..
if you have a leak in the exhaust system, fresh air gets pulled in. that mixes with the fuel, so when you clutch, it ignites and backfires.
its the most common cause of backfires..
if you have headers, id start by checking your header and collector gaskets.. in my case, it was my collector gasket... i replaced it with a embossed copper gasket.. it'll never blow out again.

yeap, if I push in the clutch quickly it will backfire, I checked my headers for exaust leaks and a couple of bolts were loose but nothing major & still I backfire just not as bad, I will have to check my collectors.
thanks.

1. when you put your hand over the carb, it starts running richer. this extra unburnt fuel starts to build up in the exhaust...
2. theres air getting in there... either from having the carb running lean, or from header/collector/pinhole air leaks...
the O2 mixes with the fuel and you get a backfire out the exhaust.
