This probably should be moved to the vendor board but i'll say that you should try another checker store.

PS: There are no bozo's at checker but we do deal with them often. We call them customers......

You dont have to move it. If a moderator feels like it, they will. When a customer comes in to buy a part, most items have a core charge. When the screen on the comp comes up and asks if you have the core we type in (Y) for yes. However, it also asks if the core is damaged in any way. If we say (Y), then they will charge you for the core. They will not take a broken core. An MAF with no screen is considered broken or altered. Like I said, you may try a different checker and hope the guy is an idiot (as you say) and doesnt notice its broken. Most of us put "no" anyway whether it is or not. When checker takes your core they get paid by "X" company for turning it in so they can repair it. They dont get anything for broken stuff. Thats why they want to charge you for the core. They want their money. They either get it from you or the vendor. They dont care which. Does that explain things for you?

Isn't that just a little retarded? I doubt they expect people to bring in stuff that is in good operational codition in as a core. Why would you replace an expensive MAF sensor if it wasn't damaged/broken and working properly?

Why do you think you needed a new Maf??? People who remove the screens seem to have the most problems. Also in your case a Maf without a screen is a damaged core, Tough.

Yeah, up here at Autozone or shucks you've got a 50/50 chance of running into someone useful. And from what I've seen, if they can hold the job for more then 6 months NAPA comes along and offers them more money to work for them...

Rules is rules. We dont always like them but oh well....Before you go shooting off on a business like checker you ought to at least learn their policy. Its your choice to go somewhere else. Just one more case of "its their fault because you have a broken or altered part." Therefore they suk really bad. Some people need to grow up. Your complaint doesnt hold any merit. I explained what their policy is and why they do it that way.

Its not retarded...its called business. I dont believe I ever said it had to be in good operational condition did I? Please dont put words in my mouth. Most cores that are brought in are just simply no longer functional, I.E. dead batteries, starters, alternators. etc etc. His sensor obviously doesnt work. Thats a perfectly good reason to bring it in and buy a new one. However, he removed the screen. Therefore they refuse to take it and credit him for a core.

Thats too bad. Where I work we have a good crew that knows what the hell they are talking about. One guy knows about fords the other chevys. One is a FI guy, the other a carb specialist. If it bothers you that your chances are 50/50 go fill out an application. You can blame those odds on the clinton administration for making this a "service" oriented nation with its low paying jobs. I know, since were giving out opinions today, why not start a thread about what a lousy president Hillary was because he didnt drive a thirdgen and he couldnt get any replacement grass for the bed of his el camino because checker didnt have anymore. :lala: :lala: :lala: Weeeeeeeeeee!

If you're gonna slag the Democrats, then what about Dubya's admin defending outsourcing of jobs? Or the huge net loss of jobs during the last 3.5 years? Better to have a low paying job than NO job. Wake up buddy, Bush is way worse than Clinton.

Mods, please delete this political crap and let's talk cars.

the unimployment rate is EXACTLY the same as it was when Clinton was up for reelection in 1996...

As for your problem with Checker, I would personally not go back...

Get a clue, the official numbers are too low. Once your unemployment benefits run out, you're dropped off the list and are no longer counted in the "unemployment rate". Jobs were much more plentiful during the Clinton years. The *real* rate during Dubya's reign of terror and failed economic policies are much higher. Did you hear on the news that now more people than ever are at the "poverty" level? More republican crap.

Dont know why you couldnt find a job for four months. I have never had a problem finding extra work either part or full time. Sometimes you have to humble yourself and eat crow for awhile. My two teenage boys both cried about not having any work because they couldnt find what they wanted. I went out and got the job at checker in one day. It was the first place I went to. It even pays more than most entry level service jobs in this area.

Their problem today is that they want "certain" jobs and arent willing to start at the bottom or settle for something they didnt want. I moved out here (AZ) with my family 5 years ago from the east coast and I was making 16 dollars an hour. Took a job when I got here at the local college cleaning toilets on third shift for 7 dollars an hour. Found a better job three months later and I now make 50k a year. I dont think there are but a few spots in this country where it is hard to find work. I just think people have different definitions of the word. To me there has always been work available. I am proof of that. We are living in good times. we're all working and driving thirdgens. How bad can that be?

If there are more people at the poverty level it's a ripple effect from eight years of not having a president. Politics and thirdgens...you shouldnt mix the two together. Its like owning a ford.:nono:

Why would you even go to checker because your vats went out? Good grief man, what a waste of time. IF you didnt tell him you have vats he wouldnt necessarily know that. You may have disconnected it. Even if you did tell him, there are times when customers insist they know everything. I would of sold you two sets. He sold you what he had. Checker doesnt sell replica keys for your vats system.

its an autoparts store dude!, no offense to capt picard (i completely respect you and have gotten advice from threads you were involved in)... but why would you ever go to an autozone, napa, whatever and expect professional advice? I'm well aware that there are very knowledgable people that work at alot of these stores, i have a few favorite guys myself, but most real mechanics (ase cert. ect) are gonna get a 40 dollar an hour job in a garage and not have to deal with that horror called "the public".
