What stall?

I was going to run a T5 and 3.70 gears, but the auto will be faster in the end. At least for me, launching something with 3.70 gears is a pain without slicks, and I don't want to grenade the rear end.

1) CC 276HR cam shaft using 1.6rr.
2) The heads flow 246/196 at .600 lift.
3) AS&M Runners, ported plenum, big mouth manifold.
4) Tranny is stock 700R4, but will get rebuild with billet servos and shift kit. (after a long while)
5) Rear end is 9-bolt with 3.27 gears.

This car is a daily driver, and I will be looking for 3.45 gears until I find a good set, but for now.... should I use a 2400-2600 stall? I will not be using slicks, but I will probably be running Nitto 555s or equivalent tires.

Thanks guys, once again.

2400-2600 would work nice especially for daily driver.

But with 3.27's and eventually 3.45's with your setup, I say 2800 stall. Thats what I run right now, and my car is stock L98 with 2.77s for now until I put in the 3.27's I got, or maybe 3.70s. Eventually Superram. I would want 3.45's too if I can find them.

I love my stall, works great. On the street with pretty well worn street tires, it loves to spin tires under 3/4 throttle load and up with 2.77's. But with better tires it will handle well. Its not too much stall, and gets you into the meat of the torque band. From a 15-30 mph roll, it is insane when it flashes to like 2800-3000 rpms and downshifts into gear(I got a shiftkit). Plus, you can exit corners extremely well. No boggind gown in OD, just smash it and go. Sorta like a manual but no work. On the track, the surface was sticky so I hooked well and posted 1.94 60' time on same bad tires with my LCA's being out of geometry. As long as you get some good tires for hard launches and some suspension, your car will rocket out of the hole. I see that you have that so no problem. Lockup works at 40mph so mileage is saved. Definately consider the 2800. Good for your application.

try to find a used, or spend the big cash for a new vigilante 2800 or 3200, those are pretty commonly used converters. i am sure that anyone running one of these converters has nothing but good things to say about them. i would say all the way up to a 3200 rpm stall would be good for you, i would not go below 2800. my 2800 vig has totally transformed my car.

I totally agree with you guys. My 3000 stall woke my car right up, it gets right into the meat of the powerband now. It brake stalls at about 2500 before the tires start spinning. It made the car alot faster, I'd like to see what it will do at the track now

A vigilante is worth every penny. I went from a 2200 stall converter to a 2800 stall vigilante and knocked almost half a second off my 1/8 mile. I had tranny problems when I ran the 1/4, but judging by my 1/8 I could pick up as much as a .7 gain. My 60' went from mid 1.9x to high 1.7x. It is by far the greatest performance gain for the money(with the exception of nitrous) that you can buy. I have bought a ton of stuff including a supercharger and this is unquestionably the best purchase I've ever made.

One last question.

I saw this 9.5 lock-up convertor, how will I know if the tranny needs a cooler? The vig convertor said that it could lock-up under full throttle, does this meant that it doesn't need one?

GET A 3000 STALL!!!!!!!!! Here's a perfect example of why you should......two years ago I put a Hotcam and a few other goodies into my L98. I also installed a 3000 TCI converter. The difference between before and after the converter was DRAMATIC!! It brought the car to life, made it a brand new animal. And under normal drivng the car had perfect street manners! People who say that a 3000 is too much have never experienced one IMO!

My buddy, around the same time, ported his heads, intake, runners, MAF, and a couple of other things on his L98. He then installed a 2400 and could hardly tell it was there!! It was not the kick in the pants improvement he was hoping for, and to this day he regrets it as he trys to save his penny's for a 3000 stall. The stock stall on these cars is either 1600 or 1800. So with a 2400 stall, for example, you've improved you stall speed by 6 or 800 rpm, when you motor is not making serious torque and power until after 3000 rpm. So how have you helped anything??

Trust me on this one......get the 3000, at least!!
