Failed emissions, BAD hydrocarbons

Yes, I saw the other post. But I'm no where near where I need to be.
limit reading
HC 114 886 <= failed here.
CO% .64 .21
NO 876 380

It's an 85 Iroc w/ a 305. New cat, plugs, wires, cap and rotor, O2 sensor, fuel filter, air filter.

On the top of the charcole canister there was a place for a hose and it was pulling vacuum. I pluged it off b/c I couldn't find where it went. There was no hose anywhere near it, what does it do? I know that HC is me running too rich. I plan on swaping out the Tstat and retarding my timing like in the other post, but I don't think that's going to cut it.

Retard the timing and add some dry gas to the tank.

The charcoal canister has a vac hose to the throttle body, is that one still connected?
