Just started fresh 383 w/HSR, TFS 23* ETC. ETC. Have Questions?
heres the combo
GMPP 383 short block, Stealthram, TFS 23* heads, Crane hyd. roller 528/539 lift 230/234 @.050, Svo 30lb inj., 52mm T.B, SLP 1 3/4 shorties to a 3inch catback 9.9 to 1compression ,MSD 6al
i started the motor for about 15 min. to break in the cam, i set the dist. initially to were it ran the smoothest at 2,000 to break in the cam but didntunplug the connector to set base timeing. idling the timing was 10 degrees but i forgot to unplug the connector so there is some advance their. anyhow the headers turned cherry red and i think it would be from a rich condition rather than lean since the BLM was at 114-118 w/ fuel pressure at 44psi, the current chip is programed for 24 lb injectors...would turning the pressure down and setting the initial timing correctly stop the headers from glowing??
also the chip is programmed for my old motor combo which was
355 short block w/ 10to1 compression, world products sportsman 2, slp hyd.roller 502/510 lift 224/230@.050, 1.6 rockers, stealthram, 24lb SVO'S, 52mm T.B. hooker comp shorties to 3inch catback
would driving the car with that chip cause any harm to the motor as far as running lean or maybe detonation...i plan on getting a chip burned on the dyno in a few weeks just need to save some money and would like to drive the car
ANY input is much appreciated

If the headers turned red, then the car is running WAY lean. That or you have the timing way to advanced IIRC.
I personally wouldn't drive it w/ it causing the headers to glow. Other guys may have other opinions though.

Did you have your O2 sensor hooked up? Seems that should have adj you fuel for you if you went into closed loop. Retarded timing will also make the eng run hot, get it dialed in. Sounds like a great combo you got, going HSR with TFS heads on a 350 but will be putting a stroker in next year.
BTW Roller cams do not need the traditional flat tapped break in, plug and play. But since it is a fresh eng giving some running time before flogging it is wise.

i set the timing to 8 degrees and fuel pressure started at 44psi but i would have rather it be rich so i turned the fuel pressure up to 60psi and brought the car to the dyno today...it was running way lean like 16 to1....we made a short pass on the dyno only revving to 3900rpm and it made
347 ft lbs torque
226 hp
goin to burn a chip and tune in a little more and see what it does
should do a hell of a lot better with a good tune and chip
what doesnt make sense is if the block learns were 108-114, wouldnt that be a rich condition???
car sounded real mean tho, cant wait

well my dyno sheets show the thing was way lean and shouldnt be driven...the 383 flows alot more air than the 355 so i dont know how your car could have performed with that stock L98 chip it had to be lean
when i drove the car a few miles to the shop w/ the dyno it was really hesitant only revving it to 3000...we had the fuel pressure all the way up to 65psi with the vacume line off and the pump held it at 60psi on the gas so the volume is there
