got into the 12's on motor first time

i went to topeka thursday night for the street races
and i got my first 12 without nitrous
it was the only car in the 12's not on et streets or slicks

60 foot was 1.89 ( on bridgestones )
1/8 mile 8.30
1/4 mile was 12.991
trap speed was 104.77

although i am happy getting in the 12's finally
i think the slp headers and y pipe might be holding back
some power . i would think my mph would be
higher than it is .. my best is 105 and change ..
the car does not mph as well as some other 383
combos .. still gets 23 mpg on the hwy though .

total mods
383 kit
vortec heads and intake base
comp cam and springs
slp shorty headers and y pipe with cutout

i made a cai , modified the factory runners ,
ported the plenum and did the chip work

Nice job getting into the 12's, especially on street tires!

Personally I don't think the SLP headers are holding you back yet. I've trapped 112-113 NA with those headers but I'm thinking of swithching to long tubes as well. I'd bet that the modified stock runners might be holding you back...a switch to ASM runners or even a shorter runner intake should help top end out. Also are those stock Vortec heads? There's some hidden power there if you rework those heads.

I run a kinda similair setup.

A couple notes:

The SDPC Base needs some serious porting to flow anything decent.

The stock runners flow very poorly and are holding you back.

The is some magic to be made by working the Vortec exhaust ports and doing some bowl blending.

Nice run! especially since they don't prep the track worth a damn anymore...

Already forgot your name-was it mike? Get on www.ksfba.org while your in town...

I know you might not be around then but on October 9 VAMP is having a bracket race and they usually let people TnT during qualifiers and between rounds, so it'll be a good chance to run on a fully race prepped track, which means a LOT at HPT.

IROCZZ3, I doubt his runners are holding him back, they are completly siamesed from the plenum to the base, that extra cross section between the runners should give more area and flow than all the large tube runners.

Nice to see you met your goals tho I'll be out there next thursday, so i might see you then.

impressive 60 ft. with street tires! throw a set of bfg drag radials on, and get that 60 ft. into the 1.65s, and you will now have a SOLID 12 sec. perfomer. nice run!...tom

thanxs for the compliments
i think that is about as good a
60 foot as i am capable of with out
changing torque converters . i was 100%
throttle 2-3 feet out with no spin

unfortunately things went bad this weekend .. i was traveling back to school
in manhattan ks from springfield missouri
and the transmission broke at a toll
booth . the car is currently in a wreckers
storage lot until i can get a truck this weekend and take the car back home ..

oh well

nitrous cam ????

when it was running mid 13's
i put a pair of 41 n2o jets in it
and ran 12.20 .. now with slicks
i think the same jetting would
get me mid upper 11's and
i could change solenoids and jetting
and run mid lower 11's
i keep threatening to sell it but
i keep speeding it up instead

as far as pics of the runners i will
post a link

mike
