LT1 and Mini Ram
I know there has been alot of things going around about the performance of these two. I know they are virtually equal. Well what I don't like about LT1 is there is a bunch of little things you have to do to get it on a SBC. Mini Ram, on the other hand and everything from TPIS, it just goes right on, hoping there is no snaggs.
I just don't like the idea of remote thermostat and all the hoses. I think thats a lot of cluttering. I guess for the 500 bucks less it would be worth it. But I also like how Mini Ram looks. Also you don't have to modify anything to get it on. I also don't want HSR cuz its tall, and I can't use a strut tower brace.
Basicly I just wanna see what other people have for thier opinions on what I have just said. Something to talk about!! LOL

The one time I used the MiniRam I was very impressed with it- it was an animal even on a very mildly cammed motor. And for $1200+ (dont forget the cost of their fuel rails) I should have been. If I had it to do all over again I would have saved the coin and used a modified LT-1 intake. The MiniRam is nice, but not $1200 nice.

There is a guy on the Corvette Action Center who likes the Stealth Ram more than the Miniram or Super Ram. He posted some dyno sheets and the Stealth Ram did have more power than either system. If I recall correctly, the Stealth Ram would not fit under the stock hood of a Corvette but it was fine in the F-bodies.
Didn't TPIS come out with that intake design before GM?

The Stealth Ram actual produces greater output numbers than the mini-ram and others. It will fit under the camaro hoods without problem but the firebirds require a modification. I have also been looking at getting one. The thing I like the most is the price. www.stealthram.com does a nice comparison of a lot of the performances and costs for the different items available on the market. I am thinking the HSR is the direction I am going. I just want to know about hood clearance for a strut brace in a camaro.
I have not seen a HSR setup yet that is truly impressive...
I here talk of it putting up better #'s than the Mini-Ram ect...but when you look at the dyno comparisons they leave the same setup on for the mini-ram as they do for the other intakes ..which is not really right...I would not cam a Mini-ram setup the sameway I would cam a HSR or superram setup...
I'm not starting a fight with this please...
The intakes are all good for certain setups...Superram is good for midrange power/very streatable...HSR seems to have a bit more top end than a Superram, but I still has longer runners than the mini-ram and I don't see it pulling up top over a Mini-ram.
Yes,Take a hot cam/mild stock heads on a HSR you get decent #'s..Take a Mini-ram on the same setup the #'s overall are not that impressive compared to the stealthram...now throw something like a ZZX (.239/.239 @.050) in that setup and see which one makes more power..thats what I'm getting at... Why compare diffrent runner lenth intakes with the same cam...when you base your cam on the lenth of your intake runners.....
Again not trying to start a war here...I think some people on here have an "agenda" of trying to knock down the Mini-ram to push other manifolds by using bad Dyno comparisions...Again no offense in general to anyone on that comment thats just how I see it.I know the Mini-ram is expensive..its an expensive hobby too.
Someone get a setup that pulls to like 7000RPM Like Heavy ported heads/big cam ...and if the stealthram outperforms the Mini-ram from about lets say 5500-7000 than I'll eat my words..
Here's a good one...if the Mini-ram was the same price as the HSR which would people buy?

I would buy the MR in a heartbeat....as an HSR owner myself I know the MR has more potential. Only problem is I just can't justify spending that much on a MR though, but I guess TPIS can.

Well,right...I mean hell knock that manifold down a a couple hundred/drop a few bucks off the fuel rails and TPIS couldn't make them fast enough...in the end selling 20,000 intakes at $700 is more profitable than 10,000 at $900..
You would think by now someone would have a Mini-ram knock off..for like $500/$600...basically looks like a mini-ram/slight cosmetic diffrences/same runner length ect...I guess the HSR is as close as your gonna get...
I wonder if TPIS has some sort copyright on the design and no one can make a cheaper version...(of course called something other than Mini-ram)....
This all said and done I will probably still get one down the road..as I want to do a large cube motor/heads/cam and I only see the Mini-ram outside carburation or custom intake as being able to feed it enough air..

I have a Miniram and I do like it. But I bought mine before the HSR came out. Currently the heads I have are around 180cc (FelPro 1204) and port matched to my Miniram.
If I were to do it all over again, I would look at the HSR if I wanted to run a port size under 200cc because of the price difference. (I have also help do some dyno tuning on the HSR, and I am quite impressed with it's TQ characteristics).
But if you go 210 or bigger, the Miniram is the only intake that is available with "big port" versions (as big as 1207 as I recall). The other intakes, you will need to build them up and them hog them out.
Right now, I am considering AFRs 210s and I will either have to have my "small port" Miniram built up and hogged out, or just sell it and buy a "bigger port version".
BTW, as you also mentioned, matching to the cam is important. But before swapping my cam, I did use the stock L98 cam (and aluminum L98 heads ported to Fel Pro 1204/180cc). I had plenty of bottom end torque. In fact, my torque line was as flat as Nebraska from 2000 - 4000 rpm, and then slowly dropped off. I much preferred the way my car ran with the Miniram even with the stock L98 cam over the TPI setup.

I went with the LT1 intake b/c cash is tight. I'm very happy with it. There are lots of wasy to clean up the hoses and hide the fuel lines. Plus it was way easier on the bank account than a bolt on setup.
I am still a little confused about which way to go. My heads are 200cc and I am still running a stock intake with a ZZ9 camshaft. The lift numbers from the cam are not at all in tune with the intaek and it really needs to be changed. I can feel the power loss due to the intake. However, I was interested in the HSR because of the price difference between it and everything else out there. I am not sure I like the torque curve as much. I plan on driving this around town more than anything and the spike in a mid range torque curve attracts me (stock). However the HP numbers are too low for my liking. Any suggestions on the better setup. I need it to be emissions friendly as well. The HSR unfortuneatley is not. Any advice is greatly appreciated.

another alternative. just as much as a miniram but still a BIG LTR setup. have heard clames of it pulliing to 6500+
out of the box flows better then the superram. Can and has been ported to a felpro 12007 with no buildup. One has been pushed to a 12008 in a vette.
Ken is a very nice guy to talk to and doesnt just try and sell you on his intake.
Im gona be running a stroker lt1 but when i do finish off my 418sbc Im deff going with the FIRST Injection setup this time around. Should flow great on my turbo motor and be fun on the street.
