Well you have a car that could run solid mid 14's or more as it sits, and with headers/gears/converter could be knocking on 13's ...if you do heads/cam and a good tune with traction a 12 sec et is possible..not alot of 12 sec 305TPI 's around but alot of that is people just end up going with a 350...
You can get a 305 built up strong (bottom end)then stick a blower or turbo on it,or N20,and run great times...
The big thing is,that people figure for the cost to make a 305 handle good power, you can get a 350 block, bore it over, stuff it with forged internals, and have more potential for close the same price....if your stuck on using a 305..yeah it can be made to handle alot of power, but you can get more potential by spending a little more on a 350+ motor...

oops forgot to mention in my sig that i already have 3.42 gears.
so if i got LT1 heads,hooker headers,converter,camshaft, and a 100 shot of nitrous would high 11's-low 12's be possible?
i want power but i dont want to sacrafice too much economy because right now im prob getting about 10-12 mpg and about 14-16 highway

Lt1 heads?/..Too much work ..L98 aluminum ported will support good power and won't need rigging like the Lt1's...
Headers is good /along with a stall (match with cam)and a 100 shot you should get your 12 sec et with traction...please remeber our cars are getting old...the rings/pistons ect..have been through alot...when you add power adders your living on borrowed time...yes newer LS1'S hold up to a little N20,but we'll see where there at in 12+ years...if your doing this on a stock bottom end 305 it won't last very long...
What is your budget...if you don't mind me asking?...

a 305 is no different than any other engine, the sky is the limit dude. Preston Smith has a 305 car running 9s in the quarter with a turbo. do a search or just hang around this site for a while you will see what it takes to make a 305 run, this topic has been covered millions of times. horsepower is a direct result of how much money you want to spend
