MAF screens turning red?
I had a painless wiring kit installed into my car it, when i have car running and i shut it off to check things out i notice that the inside of my MAF sensor is turning red, my car is running terrible is there a short in the wiring (crossed wire or something) or is the MAF sensor just trashed?
Thanks
Matt

The MAF cars have a burn-off mode. When the engine is shut off, the ECM sends something like several hundred to 1000 volts thru the MAF senseing wire to burn off residue picked up while driving around. It only lasts a few seconds I believe.
Can someone else give the correct voltage for burnoff and the time increment.
But the sensing wire should glow red for a few seconds, that is normal and should not be connected to any drivibility problem.

Well, I did not have that kind of problem, but check this out:

If the wires are glowing while running, then I'd guess the burn-off relay is stuck, or always energized.
Wiring diagram would be beneficial for you at this point.

as far as volts that shouldn't cause the red doc. amperage generates quite a bit of heat though so what you are prolly seeing is a few amps going through that small wire
If the burnoff were to fail, is it safe to say the MAF will degrade and eventually kick the bucket? Does the computer set a code if the burnoff fails to kick in? I'm guessing not...wondering cause mine is original (relay) ...and if I should change it just to be safe.
