replacing tpi distributor

I want to know if you replace the standard tpi distributor with the msd 85551 pro billet hooked to an msd box and not the computer will the car still be able to run if the computer doesn't control the advance?

There is a pro-billet MSD out there, not sure of the number, that is GM compatable. It can use the MSD boxes I think. I just don't know the number.
