We usually rough in the port work with a carbide cutter. Then smooth it out with abrasive sanding drums. A good cutter runs about $40 and the sanding drums can be purchased thru summit racing in a porting kit. I am sure you can buy these elsewhere. If you need to buy these plus the air grinder, it may be cheaper to drop it off with an engine builder and pay him. Takes a pro a couple of hours to do it. Choice is yours.

Just the subject I have been researching. There are two articles under the FAQ thread on this message board that indicate how to do this. Also, search this message board by the key words "Porting the Plenum" and you will find lots of information. They discuss how to port the plenum and runners. There is also an article on siamsing the intake manifold. When you do this you may want to consider an Adjustable Fuel Pressure Regulator. If you are still using the original Multi Teck fuel injectors you may want to consider new fuel injectors. You will need a complete gasket set. I found the cheapest prices for all these products at Summit Racing. I searched the net for people who would do this and E-mailed a few but never heard back from them. I found a site which indicated they would bore out the throttle body but I never heard back from them and it is probably not worth it anyway. Since I lack all the tools and a shop to do this in I have decided to hire my mechanic to do this. I have assembled all the above information and will soon take it to a couple of mechanics in my city for estimates on what they will charge for labour and taxes as I have assembled the cost for all the parts. I am assuming from the articles and the scope of the work it would take at least 7 hours of labour, which my mechanic charges $45/hr.

Here is a look at mine ....these runners(aftermarket) were simesed 4" into the runner . I am not sure if that is the optimal depth or anything.....but I am trying it out
A good way figure out how far to grind is to get the bigger gaskets ( Mr G.Gasket #146) lay them on the face your are opening up , then mark it out. You can see here the way it was done on my plenum. A grinding plate was used to make it easier to keep the shape
Hope it helps a bit . This is the site I read it all from
so you can learn large from the search's as well.
Just click my www. at the bottom of my post I have a couple of pics there about my TPI system ported. For some reson I can;t post pics from cardomain right now ...sorry but they are on the site . Page 2 at the bottom is the porting of the plenum . Page 3 has to good pics you can see how my runners are opened up. Good luck and feel free to Pm me with any Q's
