intake and head/valve gaskets

Up next for me is the above repair. What is a good price range for having this done and when is a gasket not useable if it is slightly bent in shipping?
Thanks
BILL

You said once you're in a apartment right? You need a garage, especially if you're a first timer. Make sure you put the heads back on with new bolts or you will be a sad puppy in about a months time. If you are looking for estimates to have it done by a shop, I would expect to drop in the 'hood of 4-500.

Wher in MN are you @, Hibbing is a cool little town.

The intake gaskets will be fine if they are print-o-seal. If the head gaskets are composite you are good also. If they are shims/copper pre-flattened I would look at them closely.

Whaaaat?!? Our motors do not use torque to yield head bolts. Re-use 'em, just really, really clean em.

I've done a head gasket swap in a parking lot. I swapped the other one roadside in front of my house. Not hard. Just have to be carefull.

Like Devil said, our bolts are not TTY. Reusing them is OK. Just use some sealant and make sure they're clean.

Bill, do you have the provisions to do this yourself or is it determined to be out of your ability (tool-wise, room-wise, or other-wise?)

I'm not too sure if I'd get stuck or not, but currently, I'll be trying to get rubber valve gaskets and seeing if I can use some of my TPI intake Felpros that got wrecked while shipping. I could have had these reimbursed but because I waited to get money to do the deed, I was not aware I couldn't use them, but my friend who does work for me claims they are too 'warped' or bent.
They look do~able to me though. BTW, I'm a newb, don't know what's meant by torque to yield but was thinking of adding a good torque wrench to my tools. I need that money for the repairs themselves though to be honest hehe
I'll be checking today hopefully, if I get some time at my mechanic. $500 seems pretty steep, is that WITH the gasket cost?

I don't like giving out my exact location to the world, but I'm just West of Minneapolis, in the burbs West of the cities. I grew up in Minnetonka, folks live there still...for now

Ok guys, my bad. I just don't like filling the heads of the inexperienced (no offense Bill, we've all been there) with the presumtion that it's a cake walk. Yeah it's not a ultra bad job to do, but when things do happen to go wrong like a broken bolt in the process, and especially in this case a potential broken A.I.R. tube or check valve or wrong replacement part, I don't want the guy getting stuck and potentially having his car towed (been there done that). And yes they may not be torque to yeild bolts, but to me the chances of bolt stretch just isn't worth the gamble, I just replace 'em. I'm a cheap insurance type of tech, don't like doing my own jobs twice, and none of my customer repairs have ever resulted in a comeback.

I have the short Torx wrench set, would likely be hairy still. My friend was set to do the work but he didn't like the look of my gaskets that I did get. eBay has full late 80s sets for $100...That's on the 'too high' for me side, but probably close, as I think the store quoted $79 here

I waited too long they told me, so I'm stuck. I still need to talk with the family mechanic and get him to have a look. I think where my leak is now, I may have what I need... if even temporary.
